How to cope up with failure in competitive exams

Posted on February 15, 2019 by Successlynk

Life is a mixture of successes and failures. Though failure may initially cause disappointment, many a times, it becomes the stepping stone for success. Failure gives many valuable lessons. So consider failure as an opportunity to begin again. Here are some tips to cope up with failure in competitive exams.

1. Vent out your emotions: Acceptance of failure is the first and the most difficult step in coping with it. It’s OK to feel sad. Meet a friend or a trusted family and vent out your emotion. Express yourself. Cry if you want to, but do not weep too much or become depressed. Do not stop yourself from being you. Become your normal self as soon as possible. Have some fun and don’t stop yourself until you are free of sad feeling because you did work hard for the exam. If depressed, do not overeat or get into addictions. If required, take the help of psychologists.

2. Pick yourself up and start all over again: Failure is never final and Success is never ending. Get new stationary, plan new strategies of studying, get new and different type of study materials, make new timetable and start giving 100%

3. Assess your own standards: There are different ways to look at failure. Just because you have failed once, it doesn’t mean you are going to fail at everything. Use failure as the stepping stone for success. Learn the lessons. Assess your own standards. Usually we overestimate ourselves or underestimate the challenges ahead. Hence, make a realistic assessment of your preparation and your own knowledge levels. Failure shows us where exactly we stand in the competition. We will get a clear idea of the areas we must work harder. Then determine the next course of action.

4. Surround yourself with options: Bounce back to rework for the same exam. Also, give yourself more opportunities and a space to explore other fields.

5. Do not depend on previous year’s preparation: When you are clear about your goals start preparing new without waiting for the exam notification. Preparing well in advance helps you to strengthen your weak areas and be ahead of other aspirants. Find new ways to learn, practice and revise concepts.
