How to prepare smartly for competitive exams

Posted on March 7, 2017 by Successlynk

Many a times we hear from the students/career aspirants, that they couldn’t clear the exam despite working very hard. Just working hard is not good enough. One should work smart. Based on our experience, helping number of students to succeed in variety of competitive exams, we want to talk on the subject of how to prepare smartly for a competitive exam.

It is a general belief that one is likely to clear the exam, if he/she reads the subjects thoroughly ensuring that all the topics in the syllabus are covered. Hence more often than not we see students burning the midnight oil to cover the syllabus not once but multiple times. It apparently gives them a sense of satisfaction that they have worked hard and give the confidence that the results will be reflection of their effort.

Reading the text books and understanding the concepts is a good practice. It is highly recommended that one reads all the topics thoroughly and understand the concepts properly. This basically forms the foundation for facing the complex and twisted questions that come up in the examination. But just doing that is not enough. Then what is that one has to do to prepare smartly for an exam? Here are some tips

  1. Make sure you have completed all the application formalities as soon as notification comes out. This will ensure that you are not thinking about pending application formalities when preparing for the exam.
  2. Write the date of the examination on a paper in big letters and stick it on the wall in your study room. This will help you to pace your preparation properly.
  3. Most of the competitive exams happen more or less the same time every year. Even if there is a change usually it is a week or two earlier or after. Therefore, without waiting for the notification to come estimate the exam date and develop a plan working backwards.
  4. At least 3 months before the final exam, complete going through all the subjects and topics in syllabus. Make sure your understanding of the concepts, etc. are clear. This you can do by practising the questions at the end of the chapter in text book or answering questions related to the chapter you are reading.
  5. Solving the problems in the exam in traditional way will be time consuming and is not a good idea. You should develop number of shortcut methods, easy formulas, etc., to quickly solve problems. There are also techniques to work backwards from the choices of the questions. Discuss with other people who are preparing like you or go to some coaching institution. Look for smart solutions for the problems. Successlynk provides good solutions to the problems.

Hope the above tips are useful for your preparation. On behalf of Successlynk I wish you all the very best in your exams. Hope we are of some help to you.
