Bank Clerk is an entry level position in a Bank. Every year the right aspirants are recruited for clerical posts into various Public Sector Banks (PSUs).

Tasks

If you take up the job of a Bank Clerk, you will be the key person to help keep the bank in order and to provide the best customer service to the customers. You will have to perform general tasks such as data entry, filing, mail handling and messaging. You need to take care of customer responsibilities and customer services such as passing of cheques, withdrawal slips etc. You will assist them to open an account, apply for loan, update passbook etc. You may also be given the responsibility of reminding the customer of the on-going and upcoming Banking Schemes for the current financial year.

Bank Clerk exam

The Bank Clerk exam is conducted in two phases: Prelims and Mains. You need to clear both these exams to be able to join Public Sector Banks as a clerk. Prelims exam has three sections: Reasoning, English Language and Numerical Ability. The Mains has four sections: Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, General/Financial Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language.

Growth

The learning and growth opportunities for Bank Clerks in Banks are many. You may be promoted as Assistant Manager within a period of 2-5 years. The growth path is same as Probationary Officer (PO) though it is lower than PO.

If you want to be a good Bank Clerk, you need to have good verbal and written communication skills. You should be good at calculations. You also need to have considerable knowledge on computers. You have to be trustworthy and be able to pay attention to detail.
