Key strategies to beat the competition in the APPSC Group 2 Main Exam

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC)’s Group II Mains Exam has papers on General Studies and Mental Ability, Social and Cultural History of Andhra Pradesh and Indian Constitution, and Planning and Economy. It is one the most competitive exams at state level. We are giving some of the key strategies that would help those candidates who are appearing for mains this year.

1. Get the right preparation resources: Getting the best books and study materials is crucial to crack any competitive exam. You will get maximum benefits if you read the topic from one reliable source as many times as possible. You need not read the same subject from different resources. Check the exam syllabus and pattern from SuccessLynk and get yourself the latest version books and study material.

2. Prepare for Paper 1 (General Studies and Mental Ability): For this paper, prepare on current affairs, general science, modern Indian history, Indian geography, AP geography, disaster management, environment and sustainable development, quantitative aptitude and reasoning, and bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. You also have to know about constitutional issues, e-governance and Indian economy from the time independence.Daily read one English newspaper like The Hindu or Indian Express and one Telugu newspaper such as Eenadu or Sakshi and note the points. Note the current affairs in science, politics, and special events such as ISRO Satellite launches, Missile Launches, Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan, latest prizes and other scientific developments. Download NCERT textbooks on Science. Study modern Indian History and Indian national movement. Note the important events and conferences, sustainable development goals, UNFCCC meetings etc. Read and note down key points on disaster management from CBSE books. Focus on data interpretation, logical reasoning, data analysis, verbal and non-verbal reasoning etc. Note down the important points of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

3. Prepare for Paper 2 (AP History, Indian Polity and Constitution): Read history from Satavahana period to the bifurcation of AP. Read the intermediate books of Telugu Academy on AP History. Have basic knowledge of Indian constitution, government programs and policies. Download and read NCERT textbooks on Polity.

4. Prepare for Paper 3 (Indian Economy and AP Economy): Read books to understand planning in Indian economy, economic issues and economic reforms. The questions will be on the basics, so read NCERT books on economics. Note the current affairs on Indian Economic issues and events. Be prepared to answer direct questions from statistical data on poverty, unemployment, growth rate and 2011 census related numbers on child sex ratio, female ratio, illiteracy etc.Read the latest AP socio-economic survey report and the budget report. Note the key points on GSDP growth rate, sector-wise GSDP share, agriculture growth, growth in industries and service sector, unemployment rate, poverty etc. Note the allocations to important sectors such as irrigation, various welfare schemes etc.

5. Understand the Mains question trends: To understand the trends in the mains paper, practice the previous mains question papers. You need to have excellent grasp of basic concepts related to polity, governance and economy to succeed in the exam.

6. Have a timetable: Prepare a study plan with daily, weekly and monthly targets and work accordingly.Your study plan will guide your exam preparation.Have targets that are achievable. Stick to your daily schedule.

7. Focus on time management: Managing time is crucial in any competitive exam. Practice various previous year questions and model questions. Practice a lot.Practice what you read. Many times, direct questions from previous years question papers were asked.
