SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) Tier 1? – Key strategies for converting last year’s shortcomings into this year’s successful repeat attempt

Posted on January 16, 2019 by Successlynk

Sometimes it can be very difficult to predict the outcome of your exam. Failure can be one of the most devastating experiences for an aspirant, especially when he /she is expecting to clear the exam. Remember that it is not the end of the world. Exam failure is one of the many hurdles you’ll have to surpass in your life, and there are always possibilities to learn and rise above failure.

Let’s look at the key strategies for converting last year’s shortcomings into this year’s successful repeat attempt.

1. Stay self-motivated: Do not be bothered about the increasing number of candidates aspiring to crack the exam. It’s OK to fail. Be motivated to study and focus, instead of goofing around.

2. Analyse and understand your strong and weak points: SSC usually repeats questions year after year. Use this to your advantage. Analyse last year paper and identify your strong and weak areas. Strengthen your weak areas but do not put aside the strong areas. Make a timetable to allot maximum time for the weaker areas while having enough time for strong areas.

3. Improve your ways of preparation: Avoid shortcuts. Understand the basic concepts and practice to solve questions fast with traditional concepts and accurately in spite of familiarity with the shortcut methods. Develop the habit of mind calculations and practice to be perfect. Do not avoid questions based on comprehension thinking that it will save time which can be utilized in solving other questions. Have a good reading speed and practice. You can easily score 5 to 10 marks. Improve your vocabulary. Do not ignore synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution and idioms/phrases as they can be of great help. Synonyms/antonyms are repeated by SSC in Exam. Continue with the grammar practice.

Decode the pattern of the general awareness section. Many feel that its syllabus is too vast and it’s difficult to score in this section. However, if you analyse the past year SSC CHSL papers, you will find that certain question types are repeated almost every year. For example, questions on the first in India, constitutional articles and amendments, commonly used chemicals; folk dances of India etc. are repeated.

You get 4-5 marks questions from current affairs. So from the beginning of your preparation, allot time to make notes from different sources of news such as newspapers, magazines, news channels etc.

4. Practice rigorously: For the quantitative aptitude section, practice becomes a lot more important as it sharpens your application skills of various rules and formula learnt during preparation. Solve more questions at the end of each topic and attempt previous papers more number of times. Try to complete a paper in less time or in a stipulated time frame targeting the cut-offs.

5. Take mock tests and practice tests: Once you have done with the syllabus, take up SuccessLynk mock tests and practice tests. These tests are necessary as they give you the exact look and feel of the actual examination. Moreover, you can pre-assess yourself under the time limits and improve.

Success does not lie in ‘Results’, but in ‘Efforts’. But in the ‘Efforts’, it’s not being the BEST not so important, but doing the BEST is all that matters. All the best!
