Top 5 things you should avoid to make your repeat attempt work at this year’s UPSC – C.D.S. Exam (II)

Posted on November 21, 2019 by Successlynk

The UPSC CDS II exam is one of the most valued competitive examinations of our country. Good preparation and hard work are absolutely necessary to clear the exam. Let us understand some of the important things to avoid while attempting the written exam.

  1. Avoid indiscipline: First analyse your last exam performance and get to know your strong and weak areas. Collect proper resources to study, starting from class 6 NCERT books. Understand the topics to cover, available time, preparation required and create a realistic timetable you can follow. Stick to it. Prepare notes and revise periodically.
  2. Avoid studying for long without taking breaks: On an average, a person can concentrate for 45-50 minutes only. After that, the attention span decreases. So take breaks so that you can retain what you have learnt. Have balanced diet, enough sleep and do light exercises. They will keep you fit in body and mind.
  3. Avoid ignoring practice tests: After completing the syllabus and revising, take as many practice tests as possible. Create exam-like conditions such as starting the exam at the same time as on the actual day, dressing up in the same way, and take the exam. For every exam, try to improve your speed and accuracy.
  4. Avoid learning new in the last minute: From the beginning, learn and remember the key definitions and important formulas. Use memory techniques to remember. Last minute cramming will do no good. Trying to learn totally new concepts in the end wastes your time.
  5. Avoid guessing: During exam, if you are stuck with a question, move on to the next question instead of answering it. Trying to guess the right answer may land you up with lesser score with negative marking. You can attempt the question in the end. First attempt all those whose answers you are 100% sure. It will also boost your confidence. Follow exam rules.

Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep going. Tough situations build strong people in the end. All the best!
