Top 5 Tips to Succeed in APPSC Group 2 Main Exam

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission’s (APPSC) Group II examination is a written exam of objective type mode. The exam consists of three papers: Paper I, II and III. Paper I consists of General Studies; Paper II consists of Social and Cultural History of Andhra Pradesh and General overview of the Indian Constitution and Paper III consists of Planning in India and Indian Economy. Let us now look at the proven tips for clearing the Group -2 Mains exam.

  • Start right: Understand the syllabus and the exam pattern. Get the right books. Read Telugu academy books and NCERT/ APSCERT books. Prepare a timetable and stick to it. Prepare notes and make it look visually appealing. Do not leave any topic. The more you read, the more knowledge you gain. Be enthusiastic about your preparation.
  • Paper 1: Paper 1 consists of Current Affairs, General Studies, Aptitude and Reasoning. Daily read newspapers andnote down the important points of Regional, National and Internationalnews. Read Telugu newspapers as well because mostly the State news is covered in Telugu newspapers only. For General science, note the latest technology news such as ISRO Satellite launches, Missile Launches, Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan Programmes, Latest Prizes etc. Read NCERT/ APSCERT text books on General Science, Biology, Physics and Chemistry from Classes 6 – 10. Focus on Modern Indian History and Indian National Movement. Note the events from the advent of British in India i.e., after 1600 AD. Read NCERT History books.Study both Indian and Andhra Pradesh Geography. Read NCERT/ APSCERT Geography text books. Focus on Child Sex Ratio, Female Ratio, Literacy Ratio, Urban-Rural Population Ratio, etc. for the country, for the top five and bottom five states. Note the statistical information of AP. For Environmental studies, read APSCERT textbooks on Environmental Studies of classes 9 and 10. From the newspapers note information on Environmental issues, important events and conferences, Sustainable Development Goals, UNFCCC meetings etc. Focus on different types of pollution, sustainable development, soil erosion, global warming, climate change, biodiversity and environmental protection measures. Note important points on Disaster Management such as Sendai Framework, National Disaster Management Plan etc. Practice questions on Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and General English. Note the important points of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 and the issues related to AP Bifurcation.
  • Paper 2: Paper 2 consists of Andhra Pradesh History, Indian Polity and Constitution. Note the points of History from Satavahana period to the bifurcation of AP in 2014. Read Telugu Academy AP Intermediate textbooks. Have basic understanding of Governance in the country, Centre-state relations etc. Note the important features of Indian Constitution, Government programs and policies and AP Government programs and policies. Read NCERT textbooks for Indian Polity.
  • Paper 3: Paper 3 consists of Indian Economy and AP Economy. You are expected to have a good understanding on Planning in Indian Economy, Economic issues and Economic reforms. Read NCERT Books on Economics. Make notes on Indian Economic issues and events and note the statistical information on topics like poverty, unemployment, growth rate, child sex ratio, female ratio, illiteracy etc. Also, note the statistical information on GSDP growth rate, sector-wise GSDP share, growth rate of agriculture, industries and services sector, unemployment rate, poverty of AP etc. There is a possibility of asking direct questions from them. Focus on latest Budget and Socio-Economic Survey of AP. Note the Budget allocations to Irrigation, Welfare etc.
  • Practice what you read:The more you practice, the better it is. Practice previous year papers.
