The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is an All India Common Entrance Exam to get admitted into engineering colleges across India. There are two phases of the exam: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. After the Mains, you will be given all India rank and Home state rank. We’ll provide an insight into the wide variety of options after JEE Mains.
- Based on your rank, you’ll be able to prepare for Advanced exam. Based on the results of Advanced, you can join IIT or ISM for your engineering course. There are 22 IITs and Indian School of Mines (ISM) in which you can get a seat.
- Even if you have not cleared Advanced, but if you have cleared the Mains, you can still get admission into a good engineering college, based on your scores. There will be a centralized counselling for admissions to top engineering colleges. You can join NITs, IIITs and other central or state-funded institutes. There are about 24,000 seats in them. The institutes are:
- Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) – 20 institutes
- National Institute of Technology (NIT) – 31
- Government Funded Technical Institute (GFTI) – 19
- Even if you did not get admission into any of the institutes above, you can still apply for Private and State engineering institutes as they also provide admissions to all JEE Main qualified candidates. Some of the top colleges giving admission based on Mains score are:
- Shiv Nadar University
- Thapar University
- SASTRA University
- PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore
- Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology
- A few states in India do not conduct any entrance exam for Engineering admission. They admit students based on their JEE Main Rank. More than 1,100 Engineering Colleges in these states admit students based on their JEE Main Rank. More than 4.6 lakh students can get admitted into these colleges. The states are:
- Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand where there is 85% reservation for state candidates and 15% reservation for candidates from other states.
- Rajasthan, where there is 70% reservation for state candidates and up to 30% reservation for candidates from other states. Note the updates.
- JEE exam can be given up to a maximum of three times. So you can make another attempt and prepare vigorously. This may give you an edge over your competitors next year.
