It is important to think about the career as it determines a huge part of the rest of your life. You may want a reliable job and a nice career. Here is a list of options where you can appear for exams and secure a good career and a reliable future.
- Civil Services: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) selects able candidates through Civil Services Examination (CSE) for Civil Services posts in the Indian Government. The posts include Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
- Indian Economic Services: If you are a graduate with Economics/Statistics, You can go for Indian Economic Service Examination (IES). It is an administrative civil service examination that includes Grade A of the Central Civil Services of the executive branch of the Government of India.
- Indian Statistical Services: Statistics/Mathematics/Economics graduates can get recruited as Grade IV officers of the services of Indian Statistic by getting through Indian Statistical Service Examination (ISS) exam.
- Engineering Services: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Engineering Services Examination (CES) exam to recruit engineers of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication engineering. Selected candidates are appointed to various posts in Government organizations such as the Indian Railways, Central Engineering Service, Survey of India, Indian Ordnance Factories Service (Engineering Branch), Military Engineer Services, Indian Telecommunication Service, Central Power Engineering Service, Central Water Engineering Service etc. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted by the IITs for admission to post graduation in Engineering. GATE Scores are also used to recruit candidates into Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) such as HPCL, DDA, DRDO, PSPCL, AAI,NALCO, NBCC, RVNL, MECL, RCFL, NFL, EIL, BSPHCL, SAIL, BHEL, ECIL among others.
- Air Force: The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) exam is conducted to select candidates for Air force in Flying Branch and Permanent/ Short Service Commission in Technical and Ground Duty Branches.
- Defence Services: The Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) is an all India level entrance exam conducted by UPSC. Candidates are selected to recruit into the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Officers Training Academy (OTA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and Indian Air Force (IAF) Academy.
- Medical Services: The Combined Medical Services Examination is also conducted by UPSC for various posts as Assistant Medical Officer in railways, Indian Ordnance Factories Health Service, junior scale posts in central health services, etc. The candidates are required to pass the written and practical parts of the final M.B.B.S. exam.
- Various Staff: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exams to recruit graduate candidates into various posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. The departments include Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Railway and External Affairs, AFHQ, Central Administrative Tribunal, Election Commission, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, National Informatics Centre, Narcotics Control Bureau, Ministry of Mines among others. The posts would be like Assistant Section Officer, Inspector, Sub-inspector, Auditor, Junior Statistical Officer, Upper Division Clerk etc.
- Railway Recruitment: The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts various exams for filling vacancies in Indian Railways for jobs such as ticket examiner, clerk, non-technical posts, Group C and Group D departments etc. They also include Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) etc.
- Geologists: Geologists exam is conducted by UPSC to select candidates for the posts of junior Geologists and Assistant Hydro geologist.
- Teaching jobs: There are a number of exams conducted to recruit teachers in various Government schools. Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is an All India level entrance exam conducted by CBSE to recruit teachers for Central Government Schools such as NVS/ KVS/ Tibetan School etc. The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is conducted separately by the State and the Central Governments. Similarly there are Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET), CBSE National Eligibility Test (CBSE NET) for the posts of Assistant Professor, State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for lecturers. PRT, TGT and PGT are conducted by Secondary Education Service Selection Board.
- Insurance jobs: The L.I.C/ G.I.C competitive exams such as L.I.C Officers’ Exam, G.I.C Officers’ Exam, L.I.C Development Officers’ Exam, G.I.C. Assistants Exam etc., provide opportunities to get jobs in various Life Insurance and General Insurance Companies.
- Bank jobs: A number of Bank jobs are available after graduation. The State Bank of India conducts SBI PO exam to recruit Probationary officers (POs). The IBPS PO/Management Trainee (MT) exam is conducted by IBPS for hiring POs and MTs in public sector banks. The clerical entrance exam is conducted to recruit clerks in public and private sector banks, except SBI.The SO exam is conducted to recruit Special Officers. The National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) conducts an exam for Development Officers and others in banks. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts Grade A and Grade B exams to recruit Grade A and B officers. The ICICI Bank PO exams are to select Probationary Officers (POs).
Even after the completion of 12th, you can pursue your career in the following ways.
- Staff Selection commission Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL): You can write SSC CHSL exam to get recruited as Upper Division Clerk (UDC), Postal Assistant (PA) in post offices, Data Entry Operator (DEO), Sorting Assistant (SA) in Railway Mail Services or Lower Division Clerk (LDC). When you get this type of jobs, you still can grow in your career by writing department exams and get promotions.
- Indian Army: Female candidates can get recruited as Mahila Constables (General Duty). Male candidates can go for Technical Entry Scheme or become Junior Commission Officers (Catering).
- SSC Stenographer Exam: If you are good at typing, you can successfully pass in the SSC Stenographer examination and secure a Government job easily.
- Railway Recruitment Board (RRB): RRB exams are conducted zone-wise for posts such as Railway Clerk and Constables, Group D Staff, Assistant Loco Pilot, Multi- Tasking Staff or MTS and Lower Division Clerks or LDC and positions such as a driver, fireman etc.
