The Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering (GATE) exam is one national-level post-graduate entrance exam. You can write it any number of times and there is no age limit. If you are not satisfied with your present score, you can always repeat. Here are the top things you should avoid to make your repeat attempt work at this year’s GATE.
1. Avoid delaying your preparation: While you know the exam pattern and the syllabus, you need to start preparing for the exam as soon as you decide to repeat the exam. Applying the same study techniques will not help you to score better. Instead, make a few modifications in your study plan and be enthusiastic about the exam. Consistency of hard work is the key.
2. Avoid too much dependence on the previous papers: The questions will not repeat in GATE. However, the concepts will repeat. So understand the basic concepts in each subject rather than just only depending on the previous papers. Solving previous papers help you to know the pattern and how questions are made from a concept. Repeat the concepts over and over again. Keep practicing sample papers, write mock GATE tests, just keep solving and revising. Check SuccessLynk for mock tests and practice tests. Use the feedback to know your strengths and weaknesses and improvise your preparation.
3. Avoid ignoring Mathematics: Engineering mathematics is an important part of the GATE exam. If you want to score well, you have to pay special attention to mathematics. Though it holds only 15% of the total marks weight age, it is a high scoring subject. So know the concepts thoroughly and have enough practice. Accuracy and speed are two of the most important factors that help you to score really well in your GATE exam. So while practicing, prepare error analysis. This will help you to solve problems without error.
4. Avoid guess work during the exam: You have negative marking. If one question is wrong, 1.33 marks are lost. So only attempt questions for which you know the answer. Make use of online calculator.
5. Avoid distractions: Avoid unnecessary social media during your preparation. You need not check what’s happening on Facebook or Twitter when you are studying. Every minute counts when you are getting ready for an exam
Your hard work and perseverance will surely open the gates for a bright future. All the best!
